The #1 princess in the whole wide world!

Crowdsourcing modules and loading screens is a tried and true tradition, and it all began in the year of our lord 2008. To celebrate Miku's 1st anniversary, fans were asked to create songs, costumes, and illustrations for a sudden collaboration between Piapro and SEGA. The contest ran from August 21st 2008 to September 2008 (8th was the deadline for costumes, 16th was the deadline for songs and illustrations). The winning songs would be featured as BGM for the Miku Room (you could also use them in Edit Mode, of course) as well as being part of a medley in the game's credits, the winning illustrations would be featured as loading screens and slideshows for specific songs' MVs, and the winning costumes would be unlockable in-game.

Category A: Songs

In this category, 228 entries were submitted and 7 winners were declared. Most songs were actually made prior to the contest, and were either remixed/shortened for submission or had the contest tag added retroactively.

Just for fun!

There were also three contests that ran from a little before and a little after the game's release: "tried to dance" World is Mine, "tried to dance" Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru, and "tried to sing" The secret garden. Whoever made the best video in each category would be featured on the Project DIVA website, I think. It didn't get much traction, but the winners were:

Extras (not part of the contest but were promoted as tangentially related):

Note: Ogura Yui did motion capture for Project DIVA and would later go on to become a famous idol and prolific seiyuu, most relevantly voicing Hanasato Minori in Project SEKAI.
